Saying Farewell to Katherine Newman
Katherine Newman joined Southside Center of Hope in November 2019 as the organization’s first Development and Communications Coordinator.
“I have always had a big heart for service but never knew exactly how that would translate into my career. When I interviewed for the position at Southside Center of Hope I had no experience in the non-profit sector but was eager to make an impact. I am thankful that Yaisa saw my passion and decided to take a chance on me. During my time with the agency, I have been able to see the direct impact of my work on the lives of the women we serve. I don’t think there is anything more fulfilling than that,” Katherine said.
During her tenure, Ms. Newman was instrumental in spearheading and supporting several key initiatives. She managed several successful online fundraisers; she facilitated a monthly Facebook live segment “Hope Talks” aimed at educating viewers and providing community resources. Katherine also developed and recruited members for the Young Professionals Board and most notably she was instrumental in helping the organization move out of its facility on Woodlawn after the building was sold.
“Words cannot express, how grateful I am to Katherine not just for the contribution that she has made to Southside Center of Hope but for her passion and commitment to helping women in need,” said Yaisa Hagood, Executive Director.
“Making the decision to resign from my role at Southside Center of Hope was difficult. I will miss the community we have between our staff, board of directors, volunteers, and donor family. Most of all I will miss the women we serve. I am excited and thankful for the opportunity to continue making an impact by serving on the Young Professionals Board,” Katherine said.
“Katherine has worked closely with the board of directors and helped us to understand our role in supporting development activities. While she is leaving the organization, we are happy that she will become a member of the Young Professionals Board and remain connected to the organization,” said Kevin Waklatsi Board President.
Katherine’s last day with Southside Center of Hope will be June 30th.
